Aaron Foote

I’m currently a biostatistics masters student at UC Berkeley, advised by Laura Balzer and Ellen Eisen. I am grateful to be funded by the NIOSH ERC Training Grant. My research focuses on developing causal inference methods suitable for occupational health problems. Of particular interest are flexible nonparametric approaches to causal inference such as TMLE and its extensions to longitudinal settings. I work on applications in occupational epidemiology, evaluating the risk of various exposures and wrangling biases that rear their head in occupational cohort analyses.

Previously, I worked as a data science consultant with CMC: Foundation for Change, a nonprofit focused on providing evidence-based skills to those suffering from addiction, as well as family members of those addicted. My prior academic pursuits include algorithms and computational complexity research on Nonogram and other combinatorial puzzles with Danny Krizanc, as well as interpretable ML methods to evaluate feature importance scores for bias. I have experience as a TA for computer science, statistics, and data science courses, and worked as a peer tutor consulting on quantitative social science research during my time at Wesleyan.

I played varsity basketball in high school and ran track in high school and college, so I really enjoy combining my passions for sports and statistics in sports analytics! My blog discusses some projects and thoughts I have about sports, and I hope to write more!
